Green gas is a sustainable alternative to natural gas and plays an important role in the energy transition. In the Rijnmond region, Renes Recycling BV and ENGIE intend to extract green gas from vegetable waste.
It is expected that about 9 million Nm3 of green gas can be generated, which is comparable to the consumption of about 7,000 households. Because the vegetable waste will not be thrown away but used to make energy, it is called circular energy. The intended site for the plant is the Nieuw Reijerwaard industrial estate. The project will reduce CO2 emissions by 23 kilotonnes per year.
